It’s based on a set of APIs providing pre-built use cases, quick-start guides, and integrations with popular tooling. A goal is inclusion. “Many people in the tech community do not come from a traditional software engineering background, and this can make contributing to open source seem daunting,” Rubrik Principal Technologist Rebecca Fitzhugh told SDxCentral. “The goal of Rubrik Build is to break down these barriers so anyone can contribute to a project.” The data management startup, which last month closed a $261 million Series E funding, puts APIs at the core of what it does, not the periphery, Fitzhugh added. “From a high level, the Rubrik Cloud Data Management Platform helps customers solve for the complexity and data fragmentation created as a result of dealing with a myriad of software applications across the hybrid cloud,” Fitzhugh wrote in an email. “Rubrik APIs make it simple to build solutions that solve that complexity.” Build aims to extend that concept and enable the technology to more easily be used by the broader developer community. “Rubrik Build is an extension of our API-first approach to allow ease of use and pre-built integrations and use cases,” she said. An example of a Build project is Roxie, the Intelligent Personal Assistant. With the platform, you can build “a Roxie of your own.” More specifically, it enables users to learn how to construct API calls to Rubrik, build AWS Lamda functions, design an AWS Lex chatbox, and put the elements together. Users can also use the platform to integrate Rubrik with external systems including vRealize Orchestrator, Ansible, Terraform, Slack, and others to provide service delivery catalogs, configuration management, infrastructure as code, reporting, monitoring, and other functions. The open source community has three main categories of projects: software development kits (SDKs), tooling integration, and use cases. They are accessible through the website or at GitHub. Build also provides common data model (CDM) API documentation that enables a project to be taken off a Rubrik cluster. “There’s no barrier to entry — contributions are welcome from any members of our community; employees, customers, partners, alliances, or those just curious about [Rubrik] Cloud Data Management,” Fitzhugh wrote.
