同社は、Data DomainおよびIntegrated Data Protection Appliance（IDPA）製品に新機能および強化された機能を使用してデータ保護を拡張しました。Dell EMC today tackled data protection for customers moving to a multi-cloud architecture and added smaller appliance options for mid-sized organizations and larger firms running remote offices. Those moves involve expanded data protection with new and enhanced features to its Data Domain and Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA) products. The moves are appropriate as recent IDC numbers showed that 92 percent of organizations are using a cloud architecture, with 64 percent adopting a multi-cloud setup. For its on-premise Data Domain appliances, Dell EMC announced that restores are up to 2.5-times faster than before, and recalls are up to four-times faster from the cloud to the appliance. For the IDPA family of products, an enhanced data cache provides up to four-times more inputs/outputs per second (IOPS). That’s up to 40,000 IOPS with as little as 20 milliseconds of latency. This capability was introduced for Data Domain last year in release 6.1.1. Also, Dell EMC announced more public cloud providers for its Cloud Tier, Cloud Disaster Recovery, and Data Domain Virtual Edition software. For example, Data Domain OS 6.2 and IDPA 2.3 software with Cloud Tier can now connect to Google and Alibaba clouds, in addition to support already offered for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Del EMC Elastic Cloud Storage, Virtustream, Ceph, IBM Cloud Open Storage, AWS Infrequent Access, Axure Cool Blob storage, and Azure Government Cloud. A new free-space estimator tool for Cloud Tier is designed to help IT shops manage capacity to reduce on-premises and cloud storage costs. On the Data Domain Virtual Edition side, Dell EMC now supports AWS GovCloud, Azure Government Cloud, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The platform continues to support AWS S3 and Azure Hot Blob. Also, Dell EMC said Native Cloud Disaster Recovery is available across the IDPA family. Customers won’t have to set up and maintain a second site for DR and can failover to public clouds. All Data Domain and IDPA models support AWS, including VMware Cloud on AWS and Microsoft Azure for Cloud Disaster Recovery. Dell EMC appliances can be managed on-premises or in public clouds with a single interface called the Data Domain Management Center. Phil Goodwin, an analyst at IDC, said in a statement that Data Domain and IDPA “have become a cornerstone of data protection options.” He explained that those appliances are faster, with more reliable backup and fewer job failures than other options and also support faster data restores. Rob Emsley, director of data protecting marking at Dell EMC, said that the 2U Data Domain DD3300 appliance now comes in an 8 TB capacity model priced at $16,000 and a 4 TB model priced at $8,000. Software licensing for cloud tiering is often a separate cost, but some Dell EMC appliances include 5 terabytes of cloud tiering as part of the initial purchase. He noted that Dell EMC provides around 60 percent of the world’s purpose-built backup appliances. The smaller appliances demonstrate that companies don’t always need to make a large investment, Emsley said. “The need to protect data is a requirement of both small and large customers,” he added.
